Following our 2009 trip, which we liked a lot, in June 2010 my wife and me returned to Scandinavia with a trip to Copenhagen and its surroundings. Contrary to 2009 trip, where we moved a lot, we decided to base ourselves in Copenhagen for the whole duration of the trip while hopping the neighborin... [More]

Please note that 3rd party products must be installed and license obtained to use FTPSync SSL: download and install Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable (requ... [More]

One of the issues with FTPSync is that its sync algorithm is file based, not directory based. As a result, empty directories are not transferred. This seems to be increasingly a problem lately, as some frameworks, blog engines, etc. rely on their directory structure, even if directories are empty.... [More]

There are some issues in FTPSync regarding RetryDelay/RetryCount parameters. A combination of a bug in counting routine along with a bit unclear algorithm on how counting is done may result in vary strange behavior, where number of times to repeat an operation can be way different than what is set... Older versions of FTPSync retrieved all directories including those specified in ExcludeDir. This resulted in errors if those directories were inaccessible. IgnoreFailedDirs parameter was added to work arround this issue. However, latest versions of FTPSync no longer retrieve directories added to Ex... [More]

At the time of my first post on Moving to the Cloud, Amazon announced new Windows Server 2008 EC2 instances, based on EBS instead of S3. I've been playing with these for some time now and must say they resolve most of the issues I have with Windows Server 2003 instances: Launching an ins... [More]

During this summer my development computer decided to develop hardware failures and sure signs of its age and demise. As a developer, my first thought was to buy a new state of the art computer... but after a second thought I've decided to make an experiment. Instead of buying a desktop comput... [More]

In September, my wife and I spent a week long vacation on the island of Skiathos, with a day trip to Skopelos and Alonissos. Islands are these days mostly known as Mamma Mia movie islands, but also have plenty of nice beaches and walking tours. The southern part of the island is covered by go... [More]
