Following our 2009 trip, which we liked a lot, in June 2010 my wife and me returned to Scandinavia with a trip to Copenhagen and its surroundings. Contrary to 2009 trip, where we moved a lot, we decided to base ourselves in Copenhagen for the whole duration of the trip while hopping the neighboring cities with trains. This is a short summary of our trip.

June 19th, 2010: In the morning we arrived by an airplane to Copenhagen Kastrup Airport, took a train to Copenhagen and located our hotel. After a break we decided to gather info about trains, Copenhagen attractions, etc. and to get ourselves familiar with Copenhagen Old City Center.

June 20th, 2010: A walk to Frederiksberg Park, one of the largest and most attractive green spaces in Copenhagen, Frederiksberg Palace and Carlsberg brewery with world's largest collection of beer bottles. Continued exploration of Copenhagen Old City Center in the evening.

June 21st, 2010: We took a train to Hillerod and visited Frideriksborg Palace. Upon return to Copenhagen, we visited Rosenborg Slot with its exhibition of the Crown Jewels and the Danish Crown Regalia, Kastellet and the Little Mermaid, thou she took a vacation and went to Shanghai :-(.

June 22nd, 2010: This day's destination was Roskilde, where we visited the Roskilde Cathedral (the burial site for Danish monarchs and UNESCO World Heritage Site) and the Viking Ship Museum. After that we moved to the Land of Legends in Lejre.

June 23rd, 2010: The third day on a train took us to the city of Helsingor and its Kronborg Castle, immortalised as Elsinore in Shakespeare's Hamlet.

June 24th, 2010: Another day on a train, this time a jump across the Oresund to Sweden's Malmo and Lund, the oldest city in current Sweden.

June 25th, 2010: Back on foot, visiting Christianshavn, an artificial island neighboring Copenhagen, hosting The Church of Our Saviour, Copenhagen Opera House and other attractions, and a residential area often called "Copenhagen's Venice".

June 26th, 2010: Continuing exploration of Copenhagen with a visit to Amalienborg Palace, the winter home of the Danish royal family, Frederick's Church, The Danish Museum of Art & Design, National Museum of Art & Design, University of Copenhagen Botanical Gardens and Rundetarn (Round Tower) - an observation tower for expansive views of Copenhagen, a public astronomical observatory and a historical monument. In the evening a visit to Tivoli amusement park.

June 27th, 2010: A relaxing day in the Copenhagen Zoo, one of the oldest zoos in Europe, followed by...

June 28th, 2010: ... an even more relaxing day at Amager Strand, a seaside public park.

June 29th, 2010: Packing, a farewell walk through the city center, and ... flying home.
